I would like to acknowledge that I was raised, grown and are still living on Treaty 4 Land; the traditional land of the Cree, Ojibwe(OJIB-WĒ), Saulteaux (SO-TO), Dakota, Nakota, Lakota, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. I continue to respect the promises that were made on this land and will continue to support and acknowledge Treaty Land and support Truth and Reconciliation as a future educator.
Focus on the Students:
I will respect each student as a whole. Students will be encouraged to ask questions, participate, contribute and speak their minds without judgement. I will insure students that there are no “dumb” questions and that I will believe them with whatever they confide in telling me. I will believe and respect how they are feeling about themselves and others. I will do this by listening to students and asking them how they are doing not only in school but also in their personal, home life. I will tell my students that the classroom door is always open to just talk or if they are in need of help. |
Be a Safe Space:
My Classroom will be a warm welcoming space for all. I will have a zero tolerance policy for bullying, harassment, and judgement. I want my students to feel safe and to be able to express themselves without any judgement. Students should be able to express their thoughts, beliefs, religion, value, gender, and self without worrying about what everyone else thinks. I will teach my students the importance of not having to agree with other people's lifestyles but you MUST respect the person and what they choose to do. It is ok for people to be different and believe other things but you must respect that person as a whole. |
Teach to Every Students Needs:
I will use the skills learned to help teach and support students and their needs throughout the school year. Every student learns in a different way and some students need more support than others. As a teacher I will do my best to support and provide adaptation for students who may need them so they can be successful in their learning. I will use written, visuals and verbal instructions to help appeal to all students possible needs. Learning is more than grades and a piece of paper. Education is about what you learn, explore and discover rather than a student's assignment, quiz, or test marks. |
Be Hands On!
I believe that students learn best by experiencing what is going on. By using all 5 of their senses they are truly able to retain, share and hold the knowledge that we are giving them. Using dirt and experiments and presentations to enhance learning to it's fullest potential. Involving students in every part of the conversation along the way instead of just teaching then having them involved at the end of the lesson. Allowing students to be hands on allows for not only students to thrive but for teachers to as well. |
